I have been absent lately, from this blog, from other places on the internet. I have a big wide canyon of silence inside me that doesn't seem to end. I remember standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon after hiking up from the bottom several years ago. It was late winter/early spring and there were hardly any tourists there, just a bit of snow, plenty of sage and the wind whistling through some serious sedimentary rock. I can feel that wind whistling through me today.
There are things I could tell you, like how the light this morning was cobalt blue, or how two of my good friends are getting married today in West Virginia, or what it felt like to have my skis slide through fresh snow, but the descriptions, the words won't form. On the eve of a new year, I am allowing this silence to settle in and help me reflect on what I need in the next 365 days. As always I am checking in with everyone, in my shy way, and wishing you all a happy new year. Keep your fingers crossed that my words will also come back.
