In my everyday life I am an accountant, you would be truly surprised to hear this if you had ever met me in person. I completed my undergraduate degree in biology without ever taking a math class, with the exception of statistics, and the same is true of my graduate work. However over the years I started working for non-profits and then the university writing grants and creating budgets, and lo and behold, I'm not bad at that type of work. Now I work for a fantastic consulting company where I am in the accounting department. Of course, being me, I am also an accountant who bakes, writes, take photos, paints, massages, does yoga, etc. In my job occasionally I need bribes to get my fellow employees to complete certain tasks and luckily my baking comes in handy. My most recent bride involved a sweet treat and the request was met, so today I baked forty plus cupcakes.
I used molly's fabulous no fail chocolate cake/cupcake recipe and after much debate on how to top them I made a combination of powdered sugar, cinnamon and ginger to sprinkle before serving. Usually I prefer to make ganache or at least a cream cheese frosting, but these chocolaty delights can handle a little coating. I am also making honey ginger cookies tonight for those not in to chocolate (can you imagine?). Watching all my flurry of activity Mochi decided to she needed to engage in a posture of surrender.
Yes that is my cat sleeping in Paschimotasana, unfortunately she woke up right when the shutter snapped, but you get the idea. Hope your Sunday was enjoyable.
Swish, swish, swish. My weight shifts from left to right as I kick my skis through the snow. Snow is lightly falling, but we need more, as it is there are still tussocks and rose bushes sticking out through the trail. It is silent out here, just my breathing, the sound of my skis on the snow and perhaps the occasional raven flying above. When I finally fall into the rhythm my mind begins to wander, I try to bring my thoughts back to just the dance I am performing with my skis, to let go of the rest of my life for the next hour. Soon I won't be able to enjoy these excursions in the daylight, work will keep me indoors during our few hours of sun, and I will change my rhythm again to accommodate skiing with nothing but my headlamp or the moon to light the trail.
Now at home I enjoy the small batch of cookies I just baked, a cup of tea, my new skirt over yoga pants. Tonight I will make a pot of chili for us to eat with rosemary olive ciabatta, maybe we will watch a movie. The cat is curled into the couch with me, the dog asleep on his bed and the radio is talking quietly on the bookshelf. Just another Saturday.......
I have decided to join the herd for NaBloPoMo, I have been enjoying other folks posts the last couple of days and I needed a kick in the butt to get out of my blog writing slump. I may not have a photo for every day of November, but I will attempt to post some words. I will be back later in the day.
